Miss Scotland takes up golf
St Andrews Links was graced by Stephanie Willemse yesterday. The current Miss Scotland relaxed before next month's Miss World contest in South Africa with a lesson at the Golf Academy from Steve North followed by a visit to the Old Course

Robert Karlsson wins Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
Sweden's Robert Karlsson broke the British Isles' stranglehold on the Dunhill by winning the tournament at the first extra hole in a three way play off with Ross Fisher of England and German Martin Kaymer. Jarmo Sandelin was fourth on eight under. Karlsson's final round of 65 on the Old Course brought him to ten under par. He praised the condition of the Old Course, saying it was 'fantastic to play.'

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, day three
A close finish tomorrow looks certain with 59 golfers lying within ten shots of the lead, which is shared by Martin Kaymer of Germany (below) and Sweden's Jarmo Sandelin, both on six under. Magnus Carlsson is on five under. Ominously positioned, on four under, is Padraig Harrington, twice a winner in this event and the current Open and USPGA champion. Best round on a windy and occasionally wet day came from John Bickerton, who shot 70 on the Old Course. Only six players broke par in total

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, day two

Markus Brier leads the Dunhill after two rounds
Being a native of land-locked Austria has proved no handicap to Markus Brier on links courses. He leads the Dunhill on eight under following a 70 on the Old Course to add to his 66 yesterday at Kingsbarns. Only 12 players broke par at a windy St Andrews. Best round was a 68 from Magnus Carlsson scores

Best rounds on the Old Course today were 66s from Australia's Marcus Fraser, Scot Marc Warren and Grégory Bourdy of France. Joint leaders are England's Ross Fisher and Dane Søren Hansen, who both shot 64 at Kingsbarns. Germany's Martin Kaymer is third on 65. Full draw

Marc Warren celebrates his six under par total of 66
Marc Warren celebrates his six under par total of 66. This was his best ever competitive round at St Andrews, where he has failed to make the cut in previous Dunhills. His highest competitive round was on the Jubilee Course, where he shot a 92 in horrendous winds during a St Andrews Links Trophy.

Essential maintenance work, Strathtyrum Course, September 2008

DryJecting on the Strathtyrum

The greens on the Strathtyrum Course are receiving maintenance from DryJect equipment, which injects sand into the surfaces to improve soil profile, assist surface drainage and promote root development. Putting surfaces will be firmer as a result. The technology has been used at a number of top courses including Merion, Winged Foot and Pebble Beach.

Top qualifier for the Eden Trophy was Gordon Stevenson (Whitecraigs) on 137, four under par. Kevin Duncan (McDonald) scored 139. Local player Frazer Ogston was third on 144. Gemma Webster (Hilton Park) was the best of the ladies, carding a two over par 150 total in the Strathtyrum Trophy.

Keir McNicoll wins the Links Trophy 2008

Keir McNicoll with the Links Trophy
Carnoustie's Keir McNicoll crossed the Tay to triumph at the Home of Golf today, winning the Links Trophy by one shot from France's Rudy Thuillier after a closing round of 68. Keir finished on 283, five under par, clinching the title with a birdie at the final hole. Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) shared second place with Rudy. Sam Hutsby (Westhook) was fourth on three under.

Father and Son title goes to South Africa
The seventh annual Father & Son Tournament was won by Louis and Holger Peens from South Africa. The popular
better ball stableford competition is held over four top quality courses, with the concluding round on the Old Course. The Peens beat English pair Steven and Kristopher Gray into second place. The competition honours Old Tom Morris and his son Tommy. Next year's event takes place 18-23 April 2009 more
