Big guns firing in third round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship01/10/2011

Some of the leading names in the field including Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen, Simon Dyson and Luke Donald made moves up the leaderboard in the third round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship today.

While Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey was out on his own leading the championship at 18 under par, the big guns were firing on all cylinders and making the most of the overcast but calm conditions at the Old Course.

Chief among them were Dyson and world number one Donald who both racked up nine birdies and no bogeys, to match the course record set by Rory McIlroy at the Open Championship last year. That left them both on 13 under par for the championship.

Graeme McDowell continued his return to form this week with a five under par 67 to move in to second place on 15 under par.

Louis Oosthuizen (pictured), playing his first competitive round at the Old Course since his Open Championship triumph last year, went round in 69 to move to 14 under and third place on the leaderboard.

Local interest centred on Anstruther's George Murray who is enjoying his best week of the year on tour and carded a five under par 67 at Kingsbarns to move to 13 under par, only five off the lead.

In the pro-am team event, Alasdair McDougall, the St Andrews Links Junior Golf Association (SALJGA) Order of Merit winner, continued his dream week in the championship with his professional partner Joost Luiten. The pair notched up a team score of 61 at Carnoustie taking them to 25 under par, just three off the lead.
