The leading contenders on the Old Course, St Andrews Links today were Welshman Phillip Price, who carded a 68 to move to eight under par, and Australian Tim Wilkinson who shot 69 to finish on six under par. Tied with Price on eight under were world number two Lee Westwood and fellow Englishman Gary Boyd. Former Open champion Padraig Harrington was one behind on seven under par.
Graeme McDowell, Thomas Bjorn and leading Scotsmen Martin Laird and Alan McLean were among a group of players tied with Wilkinson on six under par.
