Eden and Strathtyrum repair work02/04/2010

The stormy weather earlier this week led to some flooding on the Eden and Strathtyrum courses. The greenkeeping teams have been working hard over the last few days to pump out the excess water and using fresh water to dilute the salt content left behind in the ground by the sea water. It is likely to be another few days before those holes can reopen and in the meantime a composite course will remain in operation.

The flooding was caused by a breach in the sea wall on nearby farmland which affected the area around the 14th and 15th of the Eden and the 12th and 13th of the Strathtyrum in particular. Greenkeepers have also been busy damming up up a low section of ground to the side of the 14th of the Eden where the water was coming on to the Links from the neighbouring fields every time the tide came in.

The combination of heavy rain, strong north easterly winds blowing in off the sea and a high tide caused some brief flooding in a small area around the Swilcan Burn on the Old Course but the water quickly cleared away and did not cause any significant damage. All the other Links courses were unaffected.
