Two Australians reached the semi-finals of the Eden Trophy continiung a fine tournament for the contingent from down under. A three time former champion and a two time former runner-up progressed to the semi-finals of the Strathtyrum Trophy.
David Abbott (pictured) and Chris Akers from Bankstown in Australia both won their quarter finals in close matches. Abbott won by 2 and 1 against Matthew Hogg from Rushcliffe and Akers edged out his clubmate Sam Costa by one hole. Tai Yasuda maintained his excellent form this week with a 2 and 1 victory against Nicholas Pomeroy from Ross-on-Wye. The last remaining Scot in the draw, Frazer Blyth from Monifieth, also progressed after a 3 and 1 win over David Ritchie from Falkirk.
In the fourth round earlier in the day Ritchie defeated Allister Raphael from Canterbury by 2 and 1 to earn a match versus Blyth, who won by one hole against Liam Reed from Holywell. Abbott, Akers and Costa all progressed through their matches with Abbott's 5 and 4 victory over Louis Erasmus from Tzaneen in South Africa the most convincing.
In the Strathtyrum Trophy, three-time winner Karen Marshall continued her progress with a 3 and 2 win over Alison Goodwin from Glenbervie. She will face Christine Appleby from Preston in the semi-final. Appleby won at the first extra hole against Karen Clayton from Manchester. Nicola Rawlinson defeated Margaret McAuliffe from Ballybunion 2 and 1 and will now face two time runner-up Ann Ramsay from Kirriemuir who knocked out last year's runner-up Elaine Clark from Manchester by 3 and 1.
In the second round, defending champion Rachel Hanlon from St Regulus lost out to Clayton by two holes. Marshall eased through by 2 and 1 against Jennifer Fallows from Manchester. Goodwin beat Lorna Armstrong from Newtonstewart by one hole. Clark triumphed 6 and 5 against Jane Bainbridge from Arcot Hall.
