The Eden and Strathtyrum tournaments moved into the matchplay stages today in damp and showery conditions on the Eden Course.
The leading qualifier Oliver Huish from North Berwick fell at the first matchplay hurdle in the Eden Trophy when he lost to Chris Purves from Baberton by 3 and 2. Second placed Tai Yasuda from Pennard overcame Lewis Miller from Rushden by one hole to take his place in the second round. Steve Dixon from Holme Hall and Andrew Laurence from Baberton were among the other leading qualifiers who moved into the second round.
Among the qualifiers for the second round were Neil Moore from the New Club of St Andrews, who enjoyed a one hole victory over Dave Green from the Vale, Frazer Blyth from Monifieth, who won at the second extra hole against Chris Dixon from the Shire, London, and David Johnson from Downfield who edged out Sean Underwood from Bankstown, Australia.
In the second round, Andrew Laurence from Baberton contiunued his rich vein of form with a 2 and 1 win over Matthew Hogg from Rushcliffe. Tai Yasuda notched up another good win when he saw off the challenge of Alastair Macnaught from Colchester by 3 and 1. Steve Dixon from Holme Hall also progressed to the third round with a two hole victory over James Fawssett from Walton Heath. The only one of the local challengers to make it through to the third round was Frazer Blyth from Monifieth after a two hole victory over Tim Aggett from Staddon Heights.

Defending Strathtyrum Trophy champion Rachel Hanlon, from St Regulus, stormed into the second matchplay round with a 7 and 6 win over Claire Richardson from Burnham Beeches on the Eden Course today. Three-time former champion Karen Marshall also progressed with a comfortable 5 and 4 victory over Dawn Pearson from Tzaneen in South Africa. Karen Clayton from Manchester (pictured) defeated the 1998 runner-up Joan Marshall, from Baberton, 4 and 2 and Alison Goodwin from Glembervie won by one hole from Ruth MaGuire from Corrstown in Ireland.
