The challenging conditions continued for the competitors in the Eden and Strathtyrum tournaments today as heavy rain and gusting winds persisted overnight and well into the morning.
A composite course between the Eden and Strathtryum courses was in operation as some parts of the Eden were affected by surface water.
In the Eden Trophy, Robbie McLeod from Edlerslie and Alan Carlisle from Monifieth played out a titanic struggle with the former squeezing through on the 23rd hole to face Michael Allen from Eastham Lodge in the quarter finals. Mark Yeomans from Millbrook and Dutch youngster Henk Geldenhuys reached the quarter finals after 2 and 1 victories over Matthew Twaddell from Blackwell and James Phillips from West Hill respectively. Daniel Bennett from Ashford edged past Mark Watt from Cathcart Castle by 2 and 1 to face Neil Smith from Ludlow (pictured) who won by one hole from Tim Aggett from Staddon Heights. Paul McMullan from King Edward Bay and Kevin Moore both enjoyed more comfortable victories to make the last eight.

Former champions Karen Marshall and Marilyn Henderson led the way into the quarter finals of the Strathtyrum Trophy. Marshall from Baberton posted a 3 and 2 win over Zoe Ridgway from Tytherington and Henderson from Royal Belfast defeated Carol Houghton from Oakmere Park Admirals by one hole. Henderson faced Ann Ramsay, from Kirriemuir, in the quarter finals and Marshall lined up against Chrstine Appleby from Preston. In the other quarter finals it was an all-Manchester clash between Jennifer Fallows and Elaine Clark and Nicky Wilson from St Regulus took on Mary McAuliffe from Ballybunion.
