Indian summer greets first day of the Dunhill07/10/2010

The Old Course was bathed in sunshine for the first day of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship as four players shared the lead on six under par.

Thomas Bjorn took his chance in the limelight to card a 66 on the Old Course after playing his part in the European Ryder Cup success as one of Colin Montgomerie's vice captains.

Argentinian Ricardo Gonzalez matched his score on the Old Course to share the lead with Scotland's Martin Laird, who shot 66 at Kinsgbarns, and Maarten Lafeber of the Netherlands who posted the same score at Carnoustie.

Englishmen Ken Ferrie and Danny Willett were among a group of players one behind after shooting five under par 67s on the Old Course. German Martin Kaymer was the best placed of the European Ryder Cup contingent after a four under par 68 at Kingsbarns.
