Links staff present pipe banner to The Black Watch26/11/2010

A ceremonial pipe banner has been presented to The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, by staff at St Andrews Links Trust.

The banner, which bears the regimental crest on one side and the St Andrews Links logo on the other, will be displayed in the Officers’ Mess at Fort George, where the battalion is stationed, and will be displayed on the pipes when the band performs at special occasions.

The pipe banner initiative is an opportunity for organisations in the traditional Black Watch area to show their support for the regiment. When St Andrews Links Trustees were approached by the battalion they agreed to participate and produce a banner.

Major David Bruce received the banner on behalf of the battalion at St Andrews Links Clubhouse as piper Private Jed Burgess played the Black Bear, which is the battalion march-past tune.

Alan McGregor, chief executive of St Andrews Links Trust, said, “We are delighted to be showing our support for the magnificent work done by The Black Watch.”

Major Bruce, added, “This is a tremendous gesture by St Andrews Links Trust and we are very grateful that they have shown their support for their local regiment. It will be very much appreciated by the men and women who serve in the battalion.”
