St Andrews Boys' and Junior Ladies' Opens qualifying results02/08/2010

North East of England golfer Thomas Rowland from Prudhoe won the scratch medal for the lowest score in the qualifying round for the 2010 St Andrews Boys' Open today.

The 17 year-old, from Prudhoe Golf Club near Newcastle, shot four birdies on the front nine of the Eden Course and a solitary bogey on the 16th to post a three under par 67. He finished one shot clear of Callum Cromar of Aboyne, Ewen Ferguson from Bearsden and Christopher Howard from Manchester to lead the 32 qualifiers for the matchplay stages of the Merchants' Cup.

Thr scratch medal for the leading qualifier in the 2010 St Andrews Junior Ladies' Open was won for the second year running by Rebecca Wilson from Grange in Monifieth. The 20 year-old former Scottish internationalist was tied after an even par 71 on the Strathtyrum Course with American Christina Vosters and Annabel Bailey from Nottingham Ladies but won by virtue of a better score on the inward nine.

Wilson, Bailey and Vosters finished one shot clear of English golfers Melissa McMahon from Yeovil and Lianna Bailey from Nottingham Ladies to lead the qualifiers for the matchplay stages of the competition.
