Sun shines on the third round of the Open17/07/2010

A stiff breeze greeted the third round of the Open Championship on the Old Course today but the conditions stayed steady throughout the afternoon enabling the likes of Henrik Stenson, Paul Casey, Martin Kaymer and Sergio Garcia to make a run on the leaderboard.

With the second round leaders not out until late in the day it left the stage clear for players back in the pack to post scores on the leaderboard. Chief among those was Stenson who made four birdies on the front nine and then eagled the 13th to move to eight under par. Paul Casey birdied the 2nd and 3rd holes to sit on the same score.

Three birdies in his first seven holes took Robert Karlsson to seven under par, one shot ahead of Kaymer who birdied the 3rd and 4th holes. Garcia moved to five under par and Rory McIlroy staged an excellent comeback after his second round travails to move to five under. A bogey five on the first hole took the leader Louis Oosthuizen back to 11 under par.

Bogeys on the 5th and 8th holes and birdie on the 9th left Tiger Woods (pictured) on three under par after the front nine.
