St Andrews Links Trust has announced the appointment of two new Trustees.

Councillor Donald Macgregor and Joe Noble, the former chief executive of Scottish Enterprise Fife were nominated by Fife Council and the R&A respectively. They replace Councillor Andrew Arbuckle and Professor Ron Morrison who stood down at the end of last year.

The Trust manages the seven public courses at the Home of Golf including the Old Course and its work is overseen by a board of Trustees and the Links Management Committee.

Councillor Macgregor (71) was born in Edinburgh and educated at the University of St Andrews. He is a former Olympic and Commonwealth marathon runner and is now an athletics coach. Having taught at Madras College for many years, Councillor Macgregor is also a former General Council representative on the University of St Andrews Court. He was elected as councillor for the East Neuk and Landward ward in 2007 and was previously a Trustee at the Links from 1988 to 1996 as a nominee of the then North East Fife District Council.

Mr Noble (52) is a chartered surveyor and director of strategic development at MacDonald Estates. He was chief executive of Scottish Enterprise Fife from 2001 to 2008 managing the economic development’s agency’s £23 million budget to develop the business base in the region. In that role, Mr Noble was responsible for Scottish Enterprise’s national tourism team for six years and he has served as a board member on a number of organisations including Quality Scotland, Fife Environment Trust, Investors in People Scotland and Elmwood College.

Euan Loudon, chief executive of St Andrews Links Trust, said, “Donald and Joe bring a wealth of experience to their roles and I am very much looking forward to working with them. Trustees are responsible for overseeing the strategic development of the Trust and this is an important year for us as we seek to build on the success of the Open Championship last year and continue to improve the service and facilities we provide to golfers.”
