Harrington and Romero tied at 19 under after the 18th hole, forcing the sudden death play off. Harrington birdied the second extra hole to claim the title after Romero missed his putt. Harrington also won the team event along with his playing partner J P McManus.It was also a memorable day at St Andrews Links for Colin Montgomerie with a record score of 63 on the Old Course after a round which included six straight birdies.
