Filming on the Old Course20/08/2003

On Sunday 24 and Sunday 31 August, the 1st and 18th holes of the Old Course will be the location for a major film production.

The film charts the life of golfing legend Bobby Jones, winner of the Open Championship at St Andrews in 1927 (pictured right) and the Amateur Championship in 1930 - the year of his Grand Slam.

His introduction to the Old Course, in 1921, was not a good one. The course got the better of him and he famously tore up his card. However, by the time he returned to St Andrews in 1958, he had earned such a firm place in the hearts of the people of St Andrews that he was awarded the Freedom of the City.

Jones died in 1971 and, as a permanent reminder of the golfer's connection with the town, the tenth hole of the Old Course was named Bobby Jones in an official naming ceremony the following year.

As the area around the 1st and 18th holes is likely to be rather busy, simply because of the number of vehicles required for the production and people involved in the crowd scenes, golfers with tee times on the New and Jubilee Courses should allow more time for their journey to the Links Clubhouse.

In addition, on Wednesday 27 August, the Eden Course will be closed in the morning and the first tee-time available will be 12.32pm.
