Kemp beats St Andrews hopeful on the 18th15/08/2003

Brian Heggie (St Andrews GC) gave reigning champion, John Kemp (John O'Gaunt) a run for his money in the first round of the 2003 British Mid-Amateur, but was beaten at the 18th hole after a very close match.

The only St Andrews player to make it to the second round was Gary Sharp who won at the 19th hole against Michael McCormick of West Middlesex.

Still in the running is another past champion, Stephen East (Moortown), who won the 2001 event at Seaton Carew.
