LINKS CADDIES AND STAFF PLAY FOR CHARITY02/05/2003

The Scottish children's charity, Children 1st, received a cheque for £340 from the staff and caddies at St Andrews Links following their annual golf tournament on 27 April. The event, which took place over the Strathtyrum Course, resulted in a 6-6 draw. The last time there was a draw was in 1993 when it was first played. Since then each team has won four times.

This year it was renamed the Dod Stewart Memorial Plate, in tribute to the long-serving Links caddie who died in a car crash last year. His favourite charity was Children 1st and members of his family attended the dinner and presentation of the prizes.

Individual winners were Roy Verner : nearest the pin; Colin Mitchell : longest drive and lowest gross (66); Joe McParland : lowest net 14 under; and David Coyne: lowest net 14 over. The lowest score by a lady was won by Theresa Coxon.

"It was a good-natured event as always," said Rick Mackenzie caddie manager at St Andrews Links. "We were delighted that Dod's family could join us and everyone was pleased to make a contribution towards Children 1st."
