GOLFER EMPOWERMENT AT THE LINKS19/03/2004

Golfers wishing to hone their skills can now opt to use the latest automated teeing technology, which has been installed at the St Andrews Links Golf Practice Centre.

To use the new device, called Power Tee 2, players fill a hopper under the ground with golf balls and after each shot a new ball pops up from below the mat ready to be struck. The player can press a button to choose from four tee heights, including one suitable for the most up-to-date drivers. The height of the tee can be changed at any time.

The system has been welcomed by low handicap golfers as they do not need to re-align between each stroke and they can practice at a faster rate. For older golfers, the benefit lies in the fact they do not have to bend down in between each stroke to place the ball on the tee and can give greater concentration to their swing.

Alan McGregor, General Manager of St Andrews Links Trust said: "We have around 75,000 people using the Centre every year and the new tees are proving a winner."

The new service is available to all golfers visiting the St Andrews Links Golf Practice Centre at no additional cost.
