Set up in 2001, SALJGA offers a comprehensive golf coaching programme to children aged between 5 and 18 who live or go to school in St Andrews. With 400 members and 80 volunteers, SALJGA is a pilot scheme with close involvement from the local golf clubs and the Scottish PGA. It is administered by the St Andrews Links Trust, the organisation responsible for the six historic courses at the Home of Golf.
"Paul Lawrie has been very supportive of our efforts, since he cut the ribbon to the launch the project back in 2001," said Niall Flanagan, Secretary of SALJGA. "His most recent visit in December 2003 involved delivering a clinic to 24 of our most promising youngsters which was a great success."
"It gives me enormous pride and also pleasure to be involved with such a wonderful junior program at the home of golf," said Lawrie, who is a member of St Andrews Golf Club. "It is a fantastic programme to be involved with as it offers golf to everyone from beginners through to accomplished teenagers who potentially have a future playing golf as a career. I have my own Paul Lawrie Junior Programme and to see juniors getting a structured golf programme gives me great hope for golf in the years ahead."
