"If you live in St Andrews, golf is what you do and we are very fortunate to have all the facilities on our doorstep," said SALJGA's John Matheson, who presented the clubs to The Hermitage this week.
"We are delighted to put something back into the sport and help centres such as The Hermitage, which are encouraging youngsters to take up the sport. The clubs we have given them include a wood, a five and seven iron and a putter; there's everything here that they will need to be able to play the game."
SALJGA was the first club in Scotland to pilot the national junior golf strategy, clubgolf, and its statistics are impressive. Almost 350 primary school aged children are involved in the clubgolf SALJGA Level 1 course and 60 volunteers have so far been trained to deliver the syllabus.
In the Association's older age groups, Frazer Ogston is the current Scottish under 16 Champion, Greg Paterson was runner up in the Scottish Boys' Strokeplay event and Niall Finlay reached the semi finals of the Scottish Boys' Matchplay tournament.
"We have been running this programme for three years, and I think without it our junior golf would be in a poor state."
The Hermitage, Scotland's newest golf centre, opened the first six of its 12 holes this summer and hopes to be fully operational by next spring. It is the first club in Edinburgh to embrace the clubgolf strategy.
"It was a fantastic surprise when they us offered 10 complete sets of clubs," said Hermitage Executive Officer, Mike Clarke. "There is everything here that a child would need to be able to start the game including left and right handed sets, so it will make a big difference.
"Most of the children who come to us have never played the game and we encourage them to come by bike. So it's important that we have a big supply of good equipment here which they can use free of charge. We are very grateful to SALJGA for their help."
Said Matheson: "I'm very impressed with what they have achieved and I've never seen a course like this, which has been designed specifically for juniors. They've got everything they need to learn all aspects of the game here; driving, chipping, putting and bunker play.
"It's very rewarding to see children with big smiles on their faces enjoying the game like I've seen here today. I'm sure The Hermitage will be a huge success."
