Magnus Carlsson is on five under. Ominously positioned, on four under, is Padraig Harrington, twice a winner in this event and the current Open and USPGA champion. Best round on a windy and occasionally wet day came from John Bickerton, who shot 70 on the Old Course. Only six players broke par in total
