Three new appointments have been made to the committees that oversee St Andrews Links, the largest golf complex in Europe which includes the Old Course.
Ken Stewart and Kate Ferguson have been nominated as trustees while Richard Philip joins the links management committee
The trustees are responsible for ensuring the Links is run in accordance with the St Andrews Links Order Confirmation Act 1974. The Links Management Committee is responsible to the trustees for the day-to-day operation of the golf facilities.
Ken Stewart was nominated by Stewart Maxwell, the Scottish Government’s minister for sport. Ken spent 35 years with Bank of Scotland before retiring from the position of area director within their Corporate section. Having worked in the business sector for many years he put his banking knowledge to use by establishing an advisory company. A past president of the Rotary Club of Forfar, he has a lifelong interest in sport, golf in particular, and is a member of Forfar Golf Club.
Kate Ferguson was nominated by Fife Council. She has lived in St Andrews for over forty years and is a past captain of the St Regulus Ladies’ Golf Club. She is also a member of the St Rule Club. Kate Ferguson has served on the Inter-Club Liaison Committee and she has been a scorer at six Opens and every Dunhill Links Championship.
Alastair Dempster and Fiona De Vries have stepped down from their positions as trustees.
The trustees now comprise Peter Forster, Sir Menzies Campbell, Cllr Frances Melville, Prof Ron Morrison, Cllr Andrew Arbuckle, Neil Crichton, Ken Stewart and Kate Ferguson.
Richard Philip was nominated by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. He is an hotelier in Elie. A member of the R&A and the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Muirfield, he has served on the Elie Golf House Club committee. He replaces Jim White.
The Links Management Committee now comprises Dr John Mills, Cllr Bill Sangster, Michael Cordner, Dorothy Kennedy, Dr Eric Thain, Kevin Mullins, Dorothea Morrison and Richard Philip.
