First played over 90 years ago in 1919, the Eden Tournament for gentleman golfers became one of the most important events in the Scottish calendar and has remained a popular amateur event for many local and visiting golfers to St Andrews. The competitors play qualifying rounds on the New and Eden Courses before the match play stages for both scratch and handicap concludes on the Eden Course, with consolation events on the Strathtyrum and Jubilee Courses.
The golfers compete for prestigious trophies including the Eden Trophy, presented by the former Town Council of St Andrews, the Duke of York Cup, presented in 1933 by the current Duke of York, and the Victory Cup, presented in 1919 by Lt Col Bethune as Captain of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club.
