Lewis wins 2011 St Andrews Links Trophy
Tom Lewis won the 2011 St Andrews Links Trophy with an outstanding performance in the final round on the Old Course in cold and breezy conditions.
The 20 year old from Welwyn Garden City posted a 67 to record a four shot victory with an eight under par total of 279. Three players tied for second - Daan Huizing from the Netherlands, Rhys Enoch from Wales and Sebastian Maclean from Bolivia.
Lewis, whose girlfriend Lara Cornell caddied for him, said, "It is a really big tournament to win. This is third year in a row I have played here and I enjoy these courses. You have to try go right on the Old Course to get the best angles for approaching the greens but you have to avoid the bunkers. I think I was only in one bunker all week and that was important."
Greg Paterson, of the New Club, was one of three Scots to finish on two over par along with James White from Lundin and Brian Soutar from Leven.
