St Rule Trophy

2011 Champion:  Ashley Ona, Australia

History was made as the St Rule Trophy was shortened to 18 holes for the first time due to strong winds and first round joint leader Ashley Ona won the tournament by virtue of a better inward nine on the New Course.

Winds gusting up to 50 mph led to play being suspended shortly before midday and with no sign of it abating by 3pm the decision was taken to cancel the final rounds on the Old Course.

In the 28th staging of the prestigious women's international amateur event it was the first time it had to be reduced from 54 to 18 holes. Four players were tied for the lead after two over par 73's on the New Course in the first round - Australians Ona and Breanna Elliott and Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden and Leona Maguire of Ireland. Ona had the best inward half of 34 strokes and was declared the winner.

The team event was won by Australia with Ona, Elliott and Whitney Hillier posting a best two from three score of 146.

16 year-old Leona Maguire won the Lawson Trophy for the best performance by an under 18 player.
