St Andrews caddies are self-employed but have to be licensed by the Links Trust in order to work on the Links. Many have worked here for years and their experience and knowledge is indispensable for players new to the courses. Potential caddies are trained at St Andrews Links and may spend some time as trainee caddies before joining the ranks of the caddies. Only a few are available in the winter.
