Old Course fan is married in St Andrews
A Canadian golfer, who in 2002 played the Old Course 50 times in five weeks, married his bride in St Andrews yesterday. Jeremy Angel surprised Julia Mansur with a proposal on the Old Course and they had their wedding photos taken on the iconic Swilcan Bridge.

West Sands work begins
Work began on the West Sands development yesterday. The improvements includes the reconstruction of the road that runs between St Andrews Links and West Sands.
The project has been funded by Fife Council, St Andrews Links and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. Gordon Moir, Director of Greenkeeping at St Andrews Links, said, "It is one of the busiest areas in town and it is right that it is upgraded for visitors and locals coming to the area."

The winner of the St Andrews Links Trophy 2009 is Alan Dunbar of Rathmore, Northern Ireland. He entered the tournament as a reserve. A final round 70 left him on 285, two under par. A last green birdie put him a single shot ahead of Matt Haines (Rochester and Cobham Park) in second and two ahead of Rhys Enoch (Truro).

Leading the Links Trophy on 140 is Paul O'Hara (Colville Park) after he added a 72 to yesterday's 68. Rhys Enoch (Truro) is two further back after two 71s.

Matt Haines (Rochester and Cobham Park) reached the turn in 32. He eventually signed for a 72 and a two -round aggregate of 143, level par. Matthew Nixon (Ashton-under-Lyme) shot 70, the first sub-par round of the day and one of only three, to join Matt on 143.

Defending champion Keir McNicoll of Carnoustie (above) began the day with a birdie on the first hole. He finished on even par 71. 'It's good to be here,' he said. 'The course is firm and fast. The greens are like table tops; you only miss a putt because you misread it.' Ross Kellett (Colville Park) is the pace-setter on 67. Clubmate Paul O'Hara is on 68, the same total as Italy's Matteo Manassero (Gardagolf) and American Mike McCoy (Wakonda). Liam Burns (Sundridge Park) had a hole in one at the ninth.

St Rule Trophy 2009
Kylie Walker retains the St Rule Trophy

For only the third time in its twenty-six year history the St Rule Trophy was won for a second consecutive time today. Scotland's Kylie Walker finished the 54 hole contest over the New Course and the Old Course on 218, nine under par. Carly Booth was second on 220. Pamela Prestwell made it a Scottish clean sweep of the top three on 225. Kylie, Pamela and Louise Kenny took the team honours for the home country. More

St Rule Trophy 2009
Tilly Holder of Woburn leads the way after round one. An excellent 73 in strong south-easterlies on the New Course gives her a two shot lead over Rebecca Watson (Holston Hills, USA) and Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder). Defending champion Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) is one further back.

Arnold Palmer plays the Old Course
One of the greatest figures in the game made a return to the Home of Golf today. Arnold Palmer was applauded on to the first tee by a sizeable crowd. Playing into a strong westerly wind, the seven time major winner, who turns 80 this year, struck an excellent drive on the first.

New Greenkeeping roles at the Links more
Father and Son title returns to South Africa
The eighth annual Father & Son Tournament was won for a second year in succession by Louis and Holger Peens from South Africa. The popular better ball stableford competition is held over four top quality courses, with the concluding round on the Old Course.

beat Canadian pair Per & Mikkel Hansen into second place.
The competition honours Old Tom Morris and his son Tommy. The 2010 event takes place 17-22 April

Robert Karlsson wins Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
Sweden's Robert Karlsson broke the British Isles' stranglehold on the Dunhill by winning the tournament at the first extra hole in a three way play off with Ross Fisher of England and German Martin Kaymer. Jarmo Sandelin was fourth on eight under. Karlsson's final round of 65 on the Old Course brought him to ten under par. He praised the condition of the Old Course, saying it was 'fantastic to play.'
