National Science Week launch at the Golf Practice Centre
St Andrews Links Trust played host this week to the Rt Hon
Jim Wallace, deputy first minister, who launched this year's
National Science Week at the Golf Practice Centre on 10 March.
The venue proved the perfect setting for the event as Mr Wallace
was given a demonstration of the science behind pioneering
testing equipment used to assess the very latest golf equipment.
Mr Wallace and
children from Greyfriars Primary School learned about the
flight and trajectory of golf shots using data provided by
a radar tracking system, which was demonstrated by Dr Steve
Otto, assistant director (research and testing) for the R&A.
The ingenious system used radio-wave technology to track the
Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning's shot and provide
detailed information about club-head speed, launch angle and
carry distance more
