Father and Son title goes to USA
The annual Father and Son Tournament has been won by American pair Donn and David Loe.
Held in honour of the legendary St Andrews partnership of Old Tom Morris and Tommy Morris, this year’s event, which takes the form of a better ball stableford, was played over the New Course, Carnoustie, Crail and the Old Course. The Loes scored an impressive 144 points over the four days of competition, gaining a narrow victory over fellow Americans Tony and Christian Thornley who scored 143. Third place went to Australia’s Rob and David Salmon with 141.
Ideal conditions greeted the competitors coming to the Old Course after three days of dry but windy weather at the other venues and the final day’s play was followed by a gala dinner and prize giving ceremony held at Charleton House, with all the participants wearing traditional highland dress.
Next year's tournament dates are Saturday 14 April to Wednesday 18 April 2007.

The first week in April saw the traditional curtain raiser to the golfing season, the Old Course in Reverse weekend, and this year’s event was fully booked in advance. The event enables golfers to play a round on the Old Course on its original clockwise routing, creating a new challenge by bringing a range of hazards back into play. Such was the popularity of this year’s event that the dates for next year have already been set for Friday 30 March, Saturday 31 March and Monday 2 April 2007 more details on the Old Course in Reverse

Also taking place today is the St Andrews International Golf Pro-Am.
With many golfers from around the world keen to get out and start their season off at the Home of Golf, the daily ballot for today was again oversubscribed.
