LINKS TRUST STAFF DELIVER DOUBLE DONATION
Patients in the Douglas
Ward at St Andrews Memorial Hospital will have a more comfortable
stay thanks to a £535 donation made by St Andrews Links Trust
staff. An equal contribution will also be made to those devastated
by the Tsunami Disaster in South East Asia.
Isobel Barrett, reservations
supervisor at the Trust, met charge nurse Hazel Goldsmith and staff
nurse Marion Anderson to present the cheque and heard that the contribution
would be used to acquire fleeces for patients' beds and to buy new
audio equipment for listening to tapes, CDs and the radio.
Mrs Barratt explained
that the money was raised during the Trust's annual staff raffle
in December. With over £1,000 collected, Mrs Barratt said
the decision to share the money between the Douglas Ward and the
Tsunami Disaster Appeal was quickly agreed.
"We make an annual
donation to the Douglas Ward which helps local people and their
families through terrible illnesses. However, following the horrifying
events in South East Asia, we felt compelled to make a gift to the
disaster fund. We hope the contributions will aid both causes."
Charge nurse Hazel Goldsmith
said: "By making the ward more homely, the Trust's donation
will make a lot of patients more comfortable. It's very important
for the ward and we're grateful for the support from organisations
like the Trust. It's nice to be supported so much by the local community."
