Old Course work completed early

The Old Course will be open for play as normal on Monday, December 5 after maintenance work planned for that day was completed ahead of schedule.

A ballot for Monday’s tee times will take place on Saturday, December 3.

December 5 had been set aside for maintenance work on the Old Course following one-day closures on November 21 and 28.

Around 42,000 rounds a year are played on the Old Course but the use of fairway mats in winter has reduced divot damage and has enabled the Links Trust to replace the previous system of two-week closures for maintenance with three single-day closures.

Links superintendent Gordon Moir explained, “We have been fortunate with the weather which has allowed us to complete the maintenance work early. Wherever possible we try to minimise disruption to golfers and to ensure that play continues as normal.”
