Online booking for local golfers
A new initiative enabling local golfers to book tee times on St Andrews Links courses on the internet for the first time was launched yesterday (Mon).
LinksNet Local has been adapted from the LinksNet system, which offers online bookings to visiting golfers from around the world, and will give local golfers the opportunity to book tee times on the Jubilee and Eden courses.
The initiative has been introduced on a trial basis by the Links Management Committee (LMC) of St Andrews Links Trust and will offer a small number of times on each course. It is hoped it will make it even easier for local golfers to book times by making them available online up to nine weeks in advance.
Peter Mason, external relations manager at the Trust, said, “We are delighted to be able to introduce this new mechanism which will enable local golfers to book times in advance – something that has not previously been possible unless locals were playing with visitors. LinksNet has proved extremely popular among visiting golfers and the number of times being taken up has risen by 40% in the last year.
“The new service gives local golfers another simple way of booking times on the courses. The LMC has made available a limited number of times initially to help us determine the level of interest and the committee will assess the results later in the year.”
LinksNet Local is open to yearly ticket holders who live in St Andrews and North-East Fife. It will offer two tee times on the Jubilee between 8am and 9.30am each day and four times on the Eden, with two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The times available for booking start in mid-April and will run to mid-October. LinksNet Local can be accessed through www.standrews.org.uk and there is a £4 booking fee.
Ends.
