Virtually perfect St Andrews Links challenges a new generation of players

St Andrews Links Trust has teamed up with Tiger Woods and Electronic Arts to bring the experience of playing the Old Course to a global audience.

The best selling Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 computer game features golf’s number one player taking on the challenge of golf’s number one course.

‘It is a perfect pairing,’ said Peter Mason, external relations manager with St Andrews Links Trust. ‘Tiger has won The Open twice on the Old Course, and his name is now inextricably connected to St Andrews. It is fitting that together we are bringing the glories of the Old Course to people who might otherwise never have the chance to visit the cradle of the game.’

The Links Trust has been licensing computer and video games since 1994, providing a valuable additional source of revenue which is reinvested in the courses and facilities at St Andrews, including the Old Course itself.

The latest generation of consoles have enabled an unprecedented level of detail to be captured.

DJ Powers, a former team mate of Tiger Woods at Stanford University, is one of the producers of the new game: ‘In the past we were not able to do justice to the rolling terrain. The Valley of Sin, for instance, was not nearly what it should be. With the new hardware we are able to replicate this terrain exactly and really show off what makes St Andrews so special.’

Tiger Woods has said: ‘To win at St Andrews is the ultimate… it is my favourite course in the whole world.’

Gamers the world over now have the chance to emulate Tiger’s feats on the Old Course and to find out something of what makes this legendary place so remarkable.

Other virtual products that feature St Andrews, and which are licensed by the Links Trust, include True Golf’s simulators that enable players to hit real shots as they plot their way round the game’s most strategic test, and software produced by SEGA, Sports Coach Systems and About Golf.

Having been at the forefront of golfing innovation for 600 years, St Andrews Links is bringing the game to a whole new world of players in the 21st century.
