News Release 12 February 2008

Old Course in Reverse local times

The traditional season opening event for St Andrews Links, when the Old Course is played in its original direction for three days, will take place this year from Friday, April 4.

The popular Old Course in Reverse package enables golfers to play the famous links in the original clockwise direction with golfers playing from the first tee to the 17th green and so on. The round culminates with golfers playing from the second tee to the 18th green.

The course will be played on this routing on Friday, April 4, Saturday April 5 and Monday, April 7.

For local preferential times on the morning of Saturday, April (8am-10am) the draw will be held on Friday, February 22. Local golfers are therefore asked to submit their ballot cards no later than 2pm on Friday, February 22. The results will be distributed to local golf clubs.

The Daily Ballot for tee times will run as normal for each of the three days.

Alan McGregor, general manager of St Andrews Links Trust, which administers and manages the seven public courses in St Andrews including the Old Course and the new Castle Course, said, “It is quite a challenge to play the course in the original direction which was used until the 19th Century. I think both local and visiting golfers relish the opportunity to see the course and some of its challenges from a different perspective.”
