HISTORY
Alfred
Dunhill Cup, 1985 - 2000
Starting out as the Dunhill
Cup in 1985 before being re-named the Alfred Dunhill Cup in 1992,
this international strokeplay-matchplay competition for teams of
three provided great golf and intense competition on the Old Course.
Over its lifetime, the Dunhill attracted many of the world's best
players to the Links eager to win the richest prize in European
golf. Played in early October, the tournament was frequently played
under the sapphire skies of a St Andrews autumn. It proved a fitting
ending to the professionals' season and a fine addition to the history
of the Links. From 2001, the team format was replace by the dunhill
links championship, a pro-am staged over three courses, the
Old, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie.
